Mike Dobre

Mike Dobre is a catcher from Pompano Beach, Florida.

I met Mike at a tryout in Clearwater, Florida that was just down the road from where I am staying. It was a two day tryout for about 100 players. After the first day, they cut down the number of players to just the ones they wanted to see in a game. One of the players that played the second day was Dobre.

Dobre played his college baseball at Mars Hill College. In 2008, he hit .467 with 57 runs and 35 runs batted in. He struck out 4 times in 180 at bats and was 20 for 26 in stolen base attempts. Last season in school Mike hit .396 with 56 runs and 38 RBI’s. He struck out 10 times last year in 197 at bats and was 12 for 13 in stolen base attempts. During those two seasons behind the plate he committed a total of 5 errors.

After completing school Dobre played for Texarkana of the Continental League. He hit .409 in 30 games and was 12 for 12 in stolen bases.
